The Father of Android, Andy Rubin has just tweeted a few hours ago, ‘over 900,000 devices running his mobile OS are being activated on daily basis.’ We are only a few hours away from Apple’s WWDC 2012, as Rubin tweets how amazing Android is doing and the future only seems bright and sparkling for Google owned mobile OS.
Considering IDC’s report in 1Q12 Android has the larger share of the pie with a 59.9% market share followed by Apple with 23.0%. Projectingthe growth over a year, with android devices selling 900,000 units per day using the same percentage, would make roughly 1 in every 5th mobile phone user to own an android device.
The current success is of android is undoubtedly accredited to Samsung, selling 45.5% of all android devices and as Samsung continues to invest in R&D and Mobile Division, we can definitely foresee Samsung and Android would go hand in hand to prosper, however we still need to see what Apple has to offer, a proposition that would for sure have implications on any future growth of Android.
